November 18, 2009

FireEye, Inc., the leader in malware protection systems, today announced a strategic investment and technology development agreement with In-Q-Tel, the independent strategic investment firm that identifies innovative technology solutions to support the missions of the U.S. Intelligence Community. Though specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed nor has it been disclosed which parts of the Intelligence Community have an initial interest in this capability, this strategic partnership between IQT and FireEye will extend FireEye's cyber security product development and stealth malware technical capabilities to protect against cyber threats.

"FireEye is a critical addition to our strategic investment portfolio for security technologies," said T.J. Rylander, a Partner at IQT. "FireEye offers a valuable combination of next-generation malware protection, and its approach to detecting and defeating malware is unique and potentially game changing."

FireEye's patent-pending technology detects advanced malware using a unique blend of heuristic virtual victim machines. The resulting system is comprehensive and capable of detecting zero day attacks, and generates almost no false positives. By providing accurate, actionable alerts, FireEye adds security without loss of IT productivity.

The company's victim machine analysis technology replays suspicious Web and network traffic flows into virtual machines to accurately identify infections. It offers a precise method for detecting known and zero-day malware so that customers can secure their networks.

"Cyber security is a high priority for government agencies," said Ashar Aziz, CEO of FireEye. "Working with In-Q-Tel allows us to provide the U.S. Intelligence Community with a technology solution to help defeat cyber threats, and to directly address critical national security needs."
