IQT Celebrates 25 Years of Excellence in Innovation

Read the Paper

Washington, D.C. — Today, In-Q-Tel (IQT), the not-for-profit strategic investor that is the premier partner trusted by the national security community to identify, evaluate, and leverage innovative technologies, is proud to announce the celebration of its 25th anniversary.

Since it was created in 1999, IQT has operated at the unique intersection of emerging technologies, venture capital, and geopolitics—part Silicon Valley and part Washington, D.C.—identifying critical opportunities for collaboration that advance the security interests of America and its allies.

Forging Deep and Trusted Relationships Between Entrepreneurs and the Public Sector

Born at a time when leadership in innovation was passing from the public to the private sector, IQT was tasked with harnessing the power of the startup ecosystem to support national defense priorities—and over the past quarter century its pioneering work has brought leading-edge tech startups and the government close together in highly impactful ways that its founders envisioned. It has consistently pushed the boundaries of what’s possible, creating a unique—and uniquely powerful--model that has delivered significant mission impact to its government partners in a world where threats are constantly evolving.

IQT has transitioned nearly 500 technologies to its government partners from its more than 750 investments. These technologies deliver vitally important capabilities, enabling its partners to ingest and make sense of seemingly unconnected data, rapidly process vast amounts of information in multiple languages, and identify critical intelligence faster and more effectively.

A long-standing partner to the global national security community, IQT works with more than a dozen partners in U.S. intelligence and defense as well as the United Kingdom and Australia. The company has a growing global footprint with offices in London, Munich, Sydney, and Singapore. IQT has more than 100 investments in businesses based outside the United States since its first international investment in 2002.

Charting the Future of Global Security Investing

IQT celebrates its history at a time when its mission is more important than ever in a complex and rapidly changing geopolitical environment. CEO Steve Bowsher spoke to IQT’s 25 years of success and the future of the organization leading the nation’s investment community in Global Security Investing at the annual IQT CEO Summit in May, “Just as IQT brought the public and private sectors closer together to advance national security over the past 25 years, we intend to lead this vital new investing mission for the next 25 and beyond.”

As part of its milestone celebrations, IQT is launching a number of initiatives. It's "25 for 25" series highlights 25 IQT portfolio companies who have delivered innovative technologies that have enhanced and contributed to our nation’s defense and security. Follow along on LinkedIn to learn more about these incredible success stories.

The company is also unveiling its new website, iqt.org, which offers an enhanced user experience, spotlights the cutting-edge work of IQT’s portfolio companies, provides comprehensive resources for the tech-innovation community, and shares IQT’s commitment and vision to the future of national security and defense.
